FLAVORS OF COSTA RICA
If you want to experience Costa Rica through its food, start with these timeless dishes.
Arroz con Pollo – A beloved Costa Rican classic made with rice, shredded chicken, vegetables, and spices all cooked together in one pan. It’s comforting, colorful, and often served at celebrations or family gatherings.
Olla de Carne – A traditional slow-cooked beef and vegetable stew that reflects Costa Rica’s farm-to-table roots. Packed with hearty vegetables like yucca, corn, and plantains, it’s the kind of dish that brings families together around the table.
Chifrijo – A local bar favorite that perfectly captures Costa Rica’s love of bold, satisfying flavors. This layered dish combines rice, beans, crispy pork, fresh pico de gallo, and avocado, often served with tortilla chips for scooping.
MEET THE MAKERS
Nosara’s culinary community is full of passionate chefs, farmers, and families who bring local flavor to life. From the fishermen of Playa Garza who deliver the day’s catch to the farmers at the local markets selling fresh produce, every dish begins with someone who cares deeply about what they do.
Visit local favorites like La Luna for sunset dining, Mama Gui for handmade Italian pastas paired with incredible wines, or a neighborhood soda for a truly authentic Costa Rican meal. Each restaurant reflects Nosara’s unique blend of tradition and creativity.

2 cups fresh corn kernels
1 egg
¼ cup flour
2 tablespoons sugar
Pinch of salt
Butter or oil for cooking

Sweet, simple, and full of local flavor, chorreadas are a beloved Costa Rican treat often enjoyed for breakfast or as an afternoon snack.
WHERE TO SHOP LOCAL
To cook like a local, shop like a local. The Nosara Farmers Market is a great place to find organic fruits, vegetables, baked goods, and handmade products from local vendors. Small grocery stores throughout Guiones and Esperanza also carry plenty of fresh produce, pantry staples, and Costa Rican ingredients that make recreating these dishes easy.
Fresh seafood often comes straight from nearby fishing villages like Playa Garza, where the day’s catch reflects the richness of Costa Rica’s Pacific waters.
